The “conventional” legacy based solar products were VERY EXPENSIVE, boring and did not provide economic vale to the common man.
The founders adopted the strategy of challenging the legacy and breaking the mould. They developed a range of products that are now truly affordable and make economic sense. While we will continue to innovate and develop new products, our main products are (a) Home Lighting systems and (b) Street lighting systems. Our products have an immediate 2X-3X cost advantage over conventional solar products of comparable quality and performance with payback periods now in the more reasonable durations of 2-4 years. While these advantages are immediate, we have a very clear strategy for further price reductions through technology alliances at which point the demand will be insatiable.
Our market strategy is two-pronged: Our grameen home lighting systems are targeted at rural villages and our goal is to benefit the under-privileged folks at the bottom of the pyramid. Our street lights, while they have tremendous applicability in rural areas, are targeted at urban and semi-rural areas where the infrastructure is being developed. This market segment will be offered a compelling proposition to adopt solar energy as a viable alternative to conventional solutions. We also have solar power pack solutions that are targeted at urban areas as viable alternatives to diesel generator sets. Our mission is to move solar from “boutique power” to part of “energy infrastructure”. |
